my friend's son can't contain his excitement at Café Besalu
For the past year or so, I've had the pleasure of getting to know Ballard, the lovely neighborhood just north of Seattle, and its terrific restaurants, cafes, and bars. I love the farmers' market, where you can get purple carrots, locally-grown farro, and home-brewed kombucha, and I love the chocolate croissants at Besalu, the oven-fired pizza at Delancey, and the cocktails (and pretty much the entire menu) at Ocho. For the rest of my picks (there and in nearby Fremont) read the article I wrote for the Oregonian's fabulous MIX magazine.
